1. How quickly can you get an appointment?

A studio where you get an appointment immediately, get tattooed the same day, or permanently has unusually short wait times deserves a closer look.

There are exceptions, of course: a slot can open up short notice, a new artist may just be starting out, or a studio might deliberately have open capacity. A short wait time isn’t proof of bad work on its own.

Do you get clear, understandable answers? Are your questions taken seriously? Are you told honestly if a design or idea isn’t really feasible that way?

A good studio doesn’t have to approve every idea instantly. Sometimes professional advice means advising against a certain placement, size or execution and suggesting a better alternative.

Especially with a tattoo meant to stay with you for years, honest advice matters more than a quick “yes”.

4. What about hygiene and equipment?

Look for clean, tidy workspaces, professional handling of materials and traceable hygiene standards.

A tattoo appointment often lasts several hours, during which you literally put yourself in someone else’s hands. So you should feel comfortable not just with the portfolio, but also with the atmosphere and how you’re treated in the studio.

Do you feel welcome? Are you listened to? Can you ask questions without feeling like a bother?

A pleasant, respectful atmosphere doesn’t just make the appointment better. It can also be a sign of how seriously a studio takes its clients and its work.
